國王與他的四個妻子

從前有位國王，他有四個妻子。

 國王最愛他的第四位妻子，给她穿最好的衣服，给她吃最美味的佳餚。

國王也很愛他的第三位妻子，常帶著她去鄰國訪問。 

國王同樣愛他的第二位妻子。她是國王的知心人。 國王凡是遇到什麼麻煩事，總要去找她商量，並在她的幫助下渡過難關。 

國王的第一位妻子對他忠心耿耿，為幫助國王守住財富和王位付出了很多。 然而國王卻不珍惜這位妻子。儘管她深愛著國王，國王卻無動於衷。

終於，國王病重，時日無多。他暗想：「我有四個妻子，死的時候卻只能一個人去嗎？ 」



於是他問第四位妻子：「我最愛你，你能陪我一起進墳墓嗎？」

「想都别想！」這位妻子丢下一句話，頭也不回的走了。 

傷心的國王於是問第三位妻子：「我一辈子都愛你，你準備好同我一起去了嗎？」

 「不！你死了我就改嫁。」這位妻子答道。

 接著他問他的第二位妻子：「你總能幫我。現在，你能同我一起去嗎？”」

對方答道：「這次我可幫不了你，我能做的最多是给你下葬。」

這時，一個聲音傳來：「我陪你去，你去哪我都陪著你。」

國王朝著聲音傳來的方向望去，原來是他的第一位妻子。 

望著這位因營養不良而骨瘦如柴的妻子，國王熱淚盈眶地說：「我早該對你好一點。」

實際上我們每個人的一生中都有四位妻子。 

第四位是我們的身體。無論在世時耗費多少時間和精力去保養，一旦離開人世，身體也離我們而去。 

第三位妻子是財富、權力和地位。哪天我們死了，這些東西也都將落到别人的手裡。

第二位妻子是我們的家人和朋友。無論他們願意給予我們多大的幫助，至多也只能陪我們走到墓穴的門口。 

我們的第一位妻子是心靈。人生在世，人們總在不斷追逐財富、權力和歡娛，反而忽視了心靈。 然而只有心靈才會陪我們走到天涯海角。

在緊張繁忙的生活中，别忘了保持一顆清淨平和的心靈！

The King and His Four Wives

Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives.

He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best.

He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another.

He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidant, and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times.

The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her!

One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, "I ! now have four wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone."

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I have loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No way!", replied the 4th wife, and she walked away without another word. Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart.

The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No!", replied the 3rd wife. "Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to remarry!" His heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, "I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!", replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." Her answer came like a bolt of lightning, and the King was devastated.

Then a voice called out: "I'll leave with you and follow you no matter where you go." The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was so skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the King said, "I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!"

In truth, we all have 4 wives in our lives:

Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it will leave us when we die.

Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it will all go to others.

Our 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

And our 1st wife is our Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world. However, our Soul is the only thing that will follow us wherever we go.

Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of us that will follow us to the throne of God and continue with us throughout Eternity.
